The holidays are full of such fun.
We're ready before they've begun.
The icy cold air,
Bright lights everywhere,
This season is second to none!
But oh, her round belly is sweet!
The sweet babe's tiny kicking feet,
Are making her sigh
And cry out "oh my!"
As she walks with her child down the street.
She needs to bake two pies, no less.
And she promised that she wouldn't stress.
She's determined to make
Them from scratch when she bakes
And she still has to find a new dress.
The party is two days away.
Her pies in the cupboard they lay.
The sugar and flour
Getting stale by the hour
She's got no more hours to waste.
But oh her feet swell, and they ache!
She hates to come off as a flake.
Her doula comes by
And validates her sighs
Says: "Fay Pie Co still does a mean bake."
She's relieved to have that stress gone.
Gifts are on their way from Amazon.
She heads to the fete
Making sure to hydrate
And goes home before she comes undone.
Her dear friend's new baby is home!
They're snuggling each other alone.
While Daddy takes turns
Skin-to-skin like he learned
They gaze down and stroke babe's cheekbone.
But well meaning family intrudes!
Determined to take and consume
All the family's meals.
But she still needs to heal
And their house has become a guestroom.
But postpartum doula comes by
For the first overnight shift today
She kindly shoos out
The well-meaning Aunt
And settles them in right away.
She assures them they're doing it right.
And makes sure to turn out their light.
"I'll be right over here,
In the rocking chair.
Now try and get some sleep tonight."
The wake up refreshed and happy.
Their houseguests cleaned up the nappies.
The doula made eggs
Reassured Auntie Meg
And made up a fresh pot of coffee.
If you're at all like these families
And they seem like an anamoly
Hey, you are enough.
Even though it seems tough,
You can get through this happily.
Call up your doula tonight.
Listen to her validate your fright.
She'll come rub your back,
Be your baby almanac,
And leave with the house put to rights.
Happy holidays families! Don't forget to care for yourselves this season. And call me if you need anything. -Erin
We know that choosing your place of birth is a decision you take very seriously. Whether you are looking for the right hospital, are considering a home birth, or are curious about the benefits of delivering in a freestanding birth center, we support you as you search for information and consider all of your options.
We want you to feel confident that the provider you have chosen fits with your family's unique needs and that you feel completely confident and secure in the care that you have chosen. We take pride in educating ourselves about all of the local birthing options so that when you come to us with questions we can answer them and present you with multiple options when you aren't sure what might be the best fit.
Tonight we had the pleasure of meeting with one of the midwives from Baby+Co. in Cary, NC. Cary is only about 45-85 miles from Fayetteville, depending which part of our sprawled out city you live in. Technically, this is in fact Fayetteville and Fort Bragg's closest birth center! It was a wonderful evening and we were excited by everything we learned about Baby+Co. from their Community Outreach Manager Elizabeth and Certified Nurse Midwife Jualeah.
Baby+Co. is a national company started by Dr. Cara Osborne. Dr. Osborne believes that "Birth can be so special and empowering with the right support." This is exactly what we here at Erin Stephens Birth Services believe as well. And while we know that birth can be beautiful no matter where it takes place as long as the families are comfortable, feel safe, and have the support that they want, we were excited to see that Baby+Co. offers an alternative to hospital and home birth.
Their holistic prenatal care, comprehensive education, and midwifery model is a perfect fit for families looking for an experience that feels personal and individualized. They offer a birthing space that feels like a home but is equipped with technology and tools when the need arises. They welcome parents, siblings, family, and friends in the birthing rooms, and encourage birthing parents and their partners to do what feels right to them. Our favorite quote from Jualeah tonight was "every baby writes their own story." What an absolutely beautiful sentiment.
If you are looking for more information, check out their website and schedule a tour. We also have brochures available for our clients if they would like to look at one.
